15 things I would tell my 16 year old self

Remember how like 4 months ago I started blogging about 30 things I want my kids to know about me. Well I am back and today I am doing #4.

List 10 things you would tell your 16 year-old self, if you could. (I actually had 15)

1. Be a kid and don't rush your first date or your first relationship!  You will be a grown up for a very long time! Make lots of friends- girls and boys, go out and do fun things with lots of people and laugh and be silly!

2. Don't rush your first kiss. If you let it happen at the right time, with the right person at the right age- and it will be magical! If you kiss someone just to say you have done it, you will be sorely disappointed.

3. Do your best at school. Always put in 100% in everything you do! You will never have to look back and wonder what could have been if you had only applied yourself.

4. But don't give yourself a heart attack trying to be better than everyone else! Just do the best you can and do what's best for you!

5. Develop your talents! Take lessons, learn from others, or search the internet! Be good at lots of things!

6. Play a sport and put your heart into! Pushing your body to do it's best will make you happy and healthy!

7. Do not have an exclusive relationship while you are in high school. It will take you away from your learning, your sports, your friends and your family before you are ready.

8. Spend time with your family! Yes, they will annoy you, but I promise when you look back on your life, the family vacations, your nights out with dad, shopping with mom or the time you tried to teach your little sister to drive will be some of your favorite memories that will bond you to the people that will be your best friends later in life.

9. Participate in your church youth activities! You will learn so much about who you are at camp and at young men and young women activities! You learn about God and how to use the spirit to guide you in all the tough decisions you will make in life.  Bring your friends and share the gospel with whoever will listen!

10. Tell your mom everything!  She loves you! If you are always able to talk to your parents and tell them about the good and the bad they will be able to trust you and you will trust them.

11. Realize that it is nobody's job but yours to make you happy! Never wait around for a person or things to make you happy! Learn to be happy just by being you and you will always be successful!

12. Choose the people you spend your time with wisely. You will become like the people you spend the most time with.

13.Read your scriptures and go to seminary. The spirit you will feel while doing these things is amazing and will inspire you to be your best self.

14. Make prayer a habit in doing but not in what you say. Your Heavenly Father is listening, communicate with him.

15. Have faith. Sometimes the road will be rocky, things will be hard, but have faith it will work out. Remember that trials are designed to help us learn and grow and feel. Don't be afraid, it will all work out!

I hope my kids will read these! I still remember when I was 16 and I didn't always listen to everything my parents said. But as I got older the things they taught me stuck and I realized it made me happy to do what was right and I also learned that my parents were almost always right!
