Joys of Childhood

When I was a kid we used to fight over the stickers on bananas. Getting the sticker and proudly wearing it for the short amount of time it actually stuck to my skin was one of the joys of my childhood.  Along with things like gum, riding my bike, playing with friends, and getting money so I could ride my bike to the store to buy candy or doughnuts!

These days my kids don't fight over the stickers, they can only ride their bikes on the side walk, and they definitely can't ride their bikes to store!  But that doesn't mean they don't have plenty of childhood joys that I know they will tell their kids about, like being silly and saying, "Mom, take a picture and put it on facebook!"  This picture was blog worthy!

What were some of your joys of childhood and do you let your kids do them now?

  1. Arrgh! No! My kids don't do what I was able to do and I hate it! I often wonder what memories my kids will have and if they will wish their kids had what they had like I do for them....

I had land and miles and miles to roam and be free...... I feel like my kids are under too much 'supervision'.

  3. Riding our bikes to the store was definitely one we did too. I did let Ben and Dallin walk to Walkers with Hugo one day, but I was anxious the entire time they were gone. One advantage (and use I "advantage" loosely) was that my mom worked part time so we didn't have the supervision our kids have today. That alone made for plenty of adventures (or misadventures) and childhood memories.
