Birthday Girl

Six years ago from the 1st of November, Liberty Eve Jaynes was born. It was a cold, wintry day, the day right after a fun night of taking Indy trick or treating for Halloween. The sky was gray and the clouds were low and heavy with snow. My mom had already arrived to help with my baby who was now 3 days overdue. I woke up that morning aching to have my baby in my arms. So I did what any desperate overdue expectant mother would do... I got on the phone and started begging... I finally got a hold of the midwife on call and talked her into inducing me. We got to the hospital at 1 pm. The clouds had finally released it's heavy burden and big, fluffy snowflakes were starting to fall. I started the pitocin soon after arriving and that was the only push Libby needed to finally make her appearance in this world! She was born before 3 o'clock with curtain of white swirling outside the window.

I still hadn't decided on her name. Liberty was our top choice but I wasn't sure... A scripture in 2 Corinthians has been on my mind while I had been pregnant "... and where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty." (3:17) And from the moment I had started to feel her inside I could feel the baby's close connection with Heavenly Father.

And then she was placed in my arms and on her forehead between her eyes, a little to the left, was a little angel kiss birthmark and some of the pink spots broke apart from the cluster to make a shape of an L... So Liberty it was.

And now 6 years later we celebrate her...Singing Happy Birthday before dinner is a strict Jaynes family tradition, and it must be sung twice. The first time normally and the second time really, really fast!

Then we feasted on spaghetti, Libby's favorite.

Then when every one is done eating it is present time!

Then after all her gifts are opened and have been ooohed and aaahed over we eat cake and ice cream!

It was a yummy, wonderful, happy day!
Libby, I am so glad you are mine!

  1. What a sweet post. I love reminiscing about my girls' "birth" days. I always tell them the story of when they were born on their birthdays. I need to blog about the "story" behind the stories more often. Happy B-day, Libby. I can't believe she's six. (And I love seeing color on your walls. We could never get the Nelson's to paint a wall. One day she was so excited to tell Darin that she had painted a wall in the downstairs bathroom. The color? Oyster (white-ish). That's not color. Fun colors in your house.
