My older man

Well it finally happened! Jared turned the big three-o on Saturday. Numbers really mean nothing to mean, its something that my parents taught me. But to Jared it means something. In his mind numbers are countin down his days to do the things he loves like- compete in motocycle racing, or race go karts, or go kite surfing, or do moto cross. But these days there actually are TONS of people much older doing all these things. So I'm pretty sure he is going to keep doing crazy stuff until the day he dies.

I asked Jared what he wanted to do on his birthday. Hoping that it would be something fun like go to a movie, or go out to eat, or get a sitter and go shopping. Guess what he said?

"I'm just going to get somethings done out in the garage..."

Bummer! For me that is.

Many of you have driven past our house and noticed this loft my husband built a while back. This is how it went- Jared came home from work with all this wood and I said "What are you going to do with it?" and he said build a loft in the garage. "Oh really..." I said and I go back in the house. A couple hours later I come outside and there it is complete with stairs.

Well Saturday I come out in the garage and he's building himself another place to store all his stuff! And while he is doing that I made this... (it's a motorcycle in case you were wondering.)
It took the same amount of time for me to make this cake as it did for Jared to mow the lawn, rake the leaves, tinker on his motorcycle, and cut a hole it the attic of the garage. (My boy Milo doesn't like me to do anything but hug him and kiss him!)

"Hey Daddy now that your 30 you may need a little help blowing out all those candles!"
"Yay, Daddy! Good job!

And doesn't Ellie make a cute little present!

  1. What a handy man..either that or you need to step up the cake baking thing..haha just teasin. Don't you love having a handy man around..I love it when they get those wild hair brain ideas that deal with making something and you think 'ok, whatever, I'll be in the house' then you get the pleasant surprise when something gets built! I love it!
And I loved the cake..well done!

  6. Ha ha, I know Jared will never give up all his death defying adventures. It seems to me that MIke can triple what I do too and I don't have a little nursing baby anymore. I must not be too efficent with my time. :) Tell him Happy B-DAY from Alaska.

  8. Happy Birthday Jared! My hubby just turned 31. 30 is the new 20... so they say. Nice loft. Ask jared about drywalling our basement with my brothers and dad. One of the funniest memories I have of him. He might not remember though, he is getting old.
